So here's a funny story: my Macbook... turned on.

I took it to the Genius Bar to get my options, and when I plugged it into their table charger, it just... turned on. Like it hadn't been dead for 3 weeks. Like Geek Squad hadn't said the motherboard was DONE. When Genius showed up, I explained the situation and they ran a check on macbook and battery: all of it was fine. I figured- okay I guess my charger was just toast then? They run check on charger- IT'S FINE. I'm absolutely flabbergasted. 

Best Genius could offer was that sometimes the way the charger communicates with the battery needs to be reset? And gave me a couple command keys to do so if it happens again.

So Macbook is back! It was a hell of a lot of stress to go through over something that could have been solved with some command keys! But that's 2 grand I don't have to drop, and thankfully I didn't jump into a replacement too soon!
